The China National Intellectual Property Administration announced the recognition of 1,409 new geographical indication (GI) products nationwide recently, with 18 from Wuhan making the list, local media said on July 28, 2025.

The newly designated GI products from Wuhan include Caidian watermelon, Liji chives, Huangpi Maidiwan radish and others. Together with the four previously recognized, the total number of Wuhan’s GI products has reached 22.  

Geographical indication products are top-tier local specialties originating from specific regions. Their distinctive flavors, quality, or reputation are deeply rooted in the local climate, soil, and humanistic inheritance, representing a harmonious blend of natural resources and careful cultivation.
